The Flood

I got an email yesterday from someone looking to do a 3D animation of Noah’s Ark on stormy seas (its a bit more involved than that but out of respect for a possible client, I wont lay them all out here) It sounds like a fun animation to work on and I don’t know if we’ll be doing anything for it. Just in case we get a chance to work on it I’ve started messing with a pre-viz in 3DS Max, and also doing some water tests.

Here’s a small example (water / swells and rain)

Water / Rain test 1

If we end up doing this there will also be lightning and of course, the ship, bobbing up and down in those angry seas.

STIFF Nights

I was contacted by someone on IndieClub to throw together a logo animation for the Seattle True Independent Film Festival (STIFF) I was excited to give it a go and from what I understand they are quite pleased with the results.

Engineering, we need more power!

I’m still hashing out some design ideas for my motion control system. I’m in the process of determining if stepper motors or servos would give me the best fluid motion, strength and accuracy of position. Right now, I am using a Phidgets 4 channel servo control board, 4 heavy duty servos, and a small LittleChips singleboard computer running Linux and some custom software to test the motion ideas out. Since I’m having flash problems with the SBC I am going to hopefully get the whole control app redesigned and written on my Mac Mini. I’d rather have a very solid system / user interface for programming the motion system. I eventually see it as 3D interface that is one is able to program camera movements, paths, keyframes from. I think it would be even better if I can write a plugin for 3DS Max that can control a moving camera system. Design your scene in 3D, then set up a 3DS camera that actually controls the real thing around a model. I have a lot of ideas but little time to lend to the project.
